Getting Around St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg is unique in that the city actively fosters a thriving night life in its downtown area. Apart from the available tapas clubs, jazz bars and pub style bars, the city sponsors a monthly event called " Get Down Town ". Held the first Friday of each month, the city closes down the street on Central Avenue from Second to Third Street for a street party.

Your transportation needs will really be dictated by what you want to do and where you are staying. If you are staying downtown, most everything is readily accessible by foot or the Downtown Looper Trolley. Use The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority to get you to most places beyond the range of the Trolley and they have a special trolley service just for the beaches of the barrier island running all the way from Clearwater to St. Pete Beach. Driving can get congested around Baywalk on the weekends but there are two good public parking garages on the adjacent blocks so it is an inconvenience easily lived with because it is so well lit and central to everything. The city of St. Petersburg uses a grid system of roads where the roads going east -west are called avenues and roads going north-south are called streets. Watch out for whatever comes after the street or avenue name though because it indicates where in the city that road is. For example, there are two Twenty-Second Streets - one Twenty-Second Street North and one Twenty-Second Street South. First Street runs right through the middle of downtown.
