Corsicana, Texas Corsicana is an industrial and commercial center. The City of Corsicana, the county seat of Navarro County, is located fifty-three miles to the southeast of the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex area and fifty-four miles northeast of Waco at I-forty-five/ US Highway two eighty-seven, Texas State Highway thirty-one, and Texas State Highway twenty-two. Richland-Chambers Lake, the third largest in the State of Texas, is located ten miles southeast of Corsicana along US Highway two eighty-seven. Corsicana is a city in Navarro County, Texas, United States . It located on Interstate forty-five some fifty-five miles south of downtown Dallas. The population was twenty-four thousand, four hundred eighty-five at the two thousand census. It is the county seat of Navarro County. The Corsicana Oilfield was discovered in eighteen ninety-four by accident by parched water prospectors hired by the Corsicana Water Development authority. It was the first commercially significant oilfield find in Texas. An even larger oil field, the Powell oil field, was discovered in nineteen twenty-three. Another significant area oil and gas find occurred in nineteen fifty-six. Each oil and gas discovery brought a renewed development boom to the city.
